Fitness Testing

Fitness testing can help to optimise training and enhance performance by giving an indication of an athlete’s current physical status and identifying strengths and weaknesses. Using accurate scientific equipment and protocols athletes can be tested for performance parameters specific to the demands of their sport. Regular evaluations allow an athlete’s progress to be monitored and allow training programmes to be adjusted accordingly. Our services include the following:

  • Body fat assessment – to give body fat percentage and help set nutritional targets.
  • Speed assessment – using infra-red timing gates, speed can be measured over a variety of different distances, accurate to 1/1000th of a second. This allows the same tests as used with elite athletes in many sports to be performed. Many of the rugby specific tests are identical to those used by Welsh international and regional teams along with most other international teams.
  • Endurance – can be assessed by a variety of protocols depending upon sport, may be repeated sprints, tests such as the 20m Multi Stage Fitness Test (Bleep Test) or laboratory based tests such as Maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) can be arranged.
  • Strength and Power – there are various methods to assess maximal strength and maximal power output, we will select the tests best suited to the specific demands of your sport.

Additionally, more comprehensive, individual fitness test reports can be generated. These include a full report on an athlete’s performance, identifying strengths and weaknesses with specific goals and targets set for the next time they are tested.
